    Welcome to Rosie’s Place!

    Founded by Kip Tiernan in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States, we provide a safe and nurturing environment for every woman who comes to our door, and we help her take the next steps on her journey to security, dignity and opportunity.

    Women living on the street know that they can come to Rosie’s Place to launder their clothes, take a shower, use a telephone or a computer and store their belongings in a locker.

    Every day hundreds of homeless women can count on having a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner in our bright and welcoming Dining Room.

    Food Pantry

    Our Food Pantry accommodates 5,000 visits per month, providing women and their families with fresh meat, dairy, fruits, vegetables, non-perishable staples and face masks.

    Overnight Shelter

    The Overnight Program is open every day for a total of 470 stays a year, giving guests a warm, safe bed, three meals a day and enough time to get their footing so they can start to plan what comes next.

    Women's Education Center

    We give 400 women a year an opportunity to improve skills and increase self-sufficiency through English as a Second or Other Language, computer and literacy classes.

    Advocacy

    Multi-lingual advocates schedule 15,400 appointments annually to assist guests with short- and long-term needs, including housing and job search, wellness care, transportation and funds for rent and utilities.

    Legal Program

    Our Legal Program provides more than 1,100 consultations annually in the areas of housing, family, immigration, employment, debt and benefit law.

    Wellness

    More than 25 years after its doors first opened, the Wellness Center has grown into a dedicated space for exams, direct care and consultations, providing an average of 4,000 appointments with guests each year.

    Our Public Policy Program not only advocates with state legislative and policy officials, but also works to engage guests in the democratic process on issues that directly affect their lives.
